Renowned filmmaker Partho Ghosh passed away on Monday, June 9, at the age of 75 due to a heart attack. He was well known for making popular Hindi films in the 1990s, including ‘100 Days’ starring Madhuri Dixit.
A Career Full of Iconic Films
Partho Ghosh directed many successful and impactful films in Bollywood, such as:
- Agni Sakshi (1996) – A powerful film on domestic violence, starring Manisha Koirala, Jackie Shroff, and Nana Patekar. It received several awards and was even India’s official entry to the Oscars.
- Ghulam-E-Musthafa (1997) – A crime drama starring Nana Patekar and Raveena Tandon, which became a cult classic.
- Teesra Kaun? (1994) and Yugpurush (1998) – Other well-loved films from his career.

Actress Rituparna Sengupta, who was launched in Hindi films by Partho Ghosh in 1994, confirmed the sad news. In an emotional post, she wrote:
“Heartbroken beyond words. We have lost an exceptional talent, a visionary director, and a kind soul. Partho da, you will always be remembered for the magic you created on screen. Rest in peace.”

Partho Ghosh worked in both Hindi and Bengali films for over 30 years. He was known for mixing strong social messages with stories that connected with audiences emotionally. Alongside films, he also made contributions to television.
After a break from films, he returned in 2018 with a romantic drama titled ‘Mausam Ikrar Ke Do Pal Pyaar Ke’. He had recently started working on sequels to his famous films 100 Days and Agni Sakshi.
His passing is a great loss to Indian cinema, and he will be remembered for the unforgettable stories he brought to the screen.
