Amazon CEO Tells Employees to Prepare for AI Changes and Possible Job Cuts

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has shared an important message with all employees. He said that the company plans to use more artificial intelligence (AI) in the future, which could lead to fewer jobs in some areas. As AI takes over certain tasks, Amazon may need fewer people in its corporate workforce in the next few years.

In a memo to staff, Jassy explained that Amazon is investing heavily in generative AI — a type of AI that can create content, answer questions, and help with customer service and advertising. He said that as AI tools become more common at Amazon, they will change how people work.

“We’ll need fewer people for some jobs, but more for others,” Jassy said. “We don’t know exactly how this will all turn out, but we expect our total number of corporate employees to go down as we use AI to work more efficiently.”

Right now, Amazon is working on or already using over 1,000 AI tools. But this is just the beginning. Jassy said the company is planning to develop even more AI systems and tools in the coming months. He mentioned that AI agents — smart systems that can do tasks on their own — will soon be used in every part of the business.

“There will be billions of AI agents in the future, working in every company and industry,” he said.

Jassy encouraged all Amazon employees to learn about AI. He asked them to stay curious, attend workshops, take training sessions, and use AI tools whenever possible. He said that those who learn to use AI and help the company grow in this area will have better job opportunities and can play a big role in shaping Amazon’s future.
