After the deadly Air India plane crash on June 12, 2025, many air travellers in India have become more cautious. A survey shows that over half of the passengers are now checking the type of aircraft before booking their flight.
The tragic crash involved Air India’s Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which took off from Ahmedabad and ended in disaster, killing 270 people, including 241 onboard. Since then, passengers are worried about the safety of the aircraft.

A recent survey by LocalCircles received over 40,000 responses from travellers across 294 districts in India. It found that:
- 41% of travellers are now checking the aircraft type before flying.
- 56% are doing this before even booking their flight.
- Many believe the Boeing 787-8 should be grounded until all safety checks are completed.
Most of the survey respondents were men (61%), with 47% from big cities (Tier 1), 32% from mid-sized cities (Tier 2), and 21% from smaller towns or rural areas.
Following the crash, Air India cancelled 66 flights that were supposed to use the Boeing 787 between June 12 and June 17, citing technical and operational issues.
Other airlines have also faced similar problems:
- A British Airways flight from London to Chennai had to turn back because of a suspected wing issue.
- An Air India flight from Hong Kong to Delhi returned mid-air due to a technical fault.
Reports suggest that pilots are now extra cautious and won’t take any risks if they detect even minor issues with the aircraft.
