Yashasvi Jaiswal has achieved something that no other cricketer in the world has ever done — not even legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, or Viv Richards. The young Indian opener became the first visiting player to score a Test century in his very first match in both England and Australia.
On Friday, during the first Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Headingley, Leeds, Jaiswal hit his fifth Test century. This was his third century against England, and his first ever in England, achieved in his very first Test match there. Earlier, he had scored 161 runs on his Test debut in Australia at Perth during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
While Tendulkar also scored centuries in England and Australia on debut tours, he did not do it in his first matches — his came in later games. That’s what makes Jaiswal’s achievement stand out.

The 23-year-old also has a century in the West Indies from his Test debut and had scored over 700 runs in a home series against England last year. He continues to show excellent form against England, now also in their home conditions.
A Strong Start with Rahul and Gill
On Day 1, after England captain Ben Stokes chose to bowl first, Jaiswal opened the innings confidently with KL Rahul. They built a solid 91-run partnership. Rahul scored 42 before getting out, and debutant Sai Sudharsan got out for zero.
After that, Jaiswal teamed up with Shubman Gill, the new Indian captain. Together, they added an unbeaten 123-run stand by tea, with Gill scoring a quick 58 not out — his fastest Test half-century. Jaiswal played a steady and disciplined knock, especially careful with balls outside off-stump, where he had earlier struggled.
Jaiswal’s century came off 144 balls and included 16 fours. He reached his 100 with a single after hitting two consecutive boundaries. His celebration was full of joy — he jumped and shouted in excitement, making it clear how much the moment meant to him.

A Special Moment, Then a Stunning Delivery
Right after the tea break, Jaiswal was dismissed for 101 runs when Ben Stokes bowled a brilliant delivery that went past his defence and hit the stumps.
Still, his performance marked a historic achievement and gave India a strong position early in the match. With centuries now in Australia, West Indies, and England, Yashasvi Jaiswal is fast becoming one of India’s most promising young batters.
