In a major announcement, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that pensions for widows, senior citizens, and people with disabilities will be increased from ₹400 to ₹1,100 per month. This new amount will be given from next month, and over 1.9 crore people will benefit from it.

Nitish Kumar shared this update on social media, saying that elderly people are a valuable part of society and deserve a dignified life. He also mentioned that the new pension amount will be directly sent to beneficiaries’ bank accounts by the 10th of every month.

“I am happy to share that under the Social Security Pension Scheme, the monthly amount has been increased to ₹1,100. It will be credited to accounts from July onwards and help more than 1.09 crore people,” the CM posted online.

However, the opposition party RJD criticized the move. Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of the opposition, claimed that the government copied their promise. He said he had announced a pension increase to ₹1,500 in December last year, and now the ruling party is just following that idea out of fear.

In response, the ruling JD(U) party said the decision is part of their ongoing work for development and justice. They advised the opposition to focus on helping the poor instead of criticizing.
