New Nuclear Threat? Pakistan Developing ICBM Project that Could Target the US

A recent report suggests that Pakistan is working on developing a powerful missile that could reach the United States. This type of missile is called an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM), and it can travel over 5,500 kilometers and carry nuclear weapons.

According to US intelligence and a report by Foreign Affairs, Pakistan is now working on creating its own ICBM. This comes after a military operation called Operation Sindoor took place in May. Pakistan already has nuclear weapons, but it has never had a missile that could strike targets as far away as the US.

Pakistan has always said that its nuclear program is only meant to protect itself from India, which has a stronger military. However, US officials now believe Pakistan may want long-range missiles to prevent the US from attacking its nuclear sites or interfering in any future conflict with India.

What Is an ICBM?

An ICBM is a very long-range missile mainly used to carry nuclear warheads. These missiles can also carry other types of weapons (like chemical or biological ones), but they are almost always used for nuclear arms.

Some modern ICBMs can carry multiple nuclear warheads at once and hit several different targets in one go. Countries like the US, Russia, China, France, the UK, India, Israel, and North Korea already have these missiles. Pakistan is the only nuclear-armed country that doesn’t have an ICBM — at least, not yet.

Why Is This a Big Deal?

If Pakistan successfully builds an ICBM that can hit the US, it would be a major change in how America views Pakistan. US officials have said that any country with such powerful missiles would be seen as a nuclear threat — not an ally.

This is concerning because the US already sees countries like Russia, China, North Korea, and Iran as nuclear threats. If Pakistan joins this list, it could make global security even more complicated, especially if these countries decide to work together in any way.
