Tesla CEO Elon Musk has announced that a Tesla Model Y car has successfully delivered itself from the factory to a customer’s home—without any driver or remote control. This is the first time such a delivery has ever happened, according to Musk.

The self-driving car traveled from Tesla’s Gigafactory in Austin, Texas, all the way to a customer’s house across town, using highways and city roads. The delivery even happened one day earlier than planned.
Elon Musk shared the exciting news on X (formerly Twitter), saying:
“The first fully autonomous delivery of a Tesla Model Y… was just completed a day ahead of schedule! There were no people in the car and no remote operators. FULLY autonomous!”
Tesla later posted a video showing the car driving itself all the way to the customer. Musk added in a comment: “First time that a car has delivered itself to its owner!”

Tesla also said the drive took around 30 minutes, and the car had to cross parking lots, highways, and city roads to reach the customer’s home.
This achievement follows Tesla’s recent launch of a pilot robotaxi program in Austin, where a few influencers and investors got rides in self-driving Model Y cars in a limited area.
