Bangladesh is boiling with anger. Protests have spread across the country after a Hindu woman was raped in Cumilla district. The brutal assault shocked the nation when a video of the crime went viral on social media.
This tragic event happened on June 26 in Muradnagar, a sub-district in Cumilla. The 21-year-old survivor had gone to her parental home with her children for a local Hindu festival called Hari Seva. Her husband, who works in Dubai, was also visiting.
Late that night, around 10 PM, a local politician named Fazor Ali, aged 36, allegedly broke into the house and raped her. The crime did not stop there. The video of the assault was leaked online, making the horror even worse for the woman and her family.
The reaction was immediate. University students, especially from Dhaka University, took to the streets. They raised their voices against this cruelty, demanding strict punishment. Their chants were loud and clear: “No more silence, no more shame—punish the rapist, end the blame.”

The High Court of Bangladesh has stepped in. It ordered the removal of the viral video and asked the police to protect the survivor and provide her with proper medical care. The court also warned against exposing the victim’s identity.
So far, the police have arrested five people. This includes Fazor Ali, the main accused, who was caught during a predawn raid in Sayedabad, Dhaka. Four others were arrested for sharing the survivor’s photo and video online, which is a crime in Bangladesh.
The survivor has now reportedly said she wants to withdraw the case. But public anger is not slowing down. People are blaming the current Yunus-led caretaker government for rising crimes. Even Sajeeb Wazed, son of former PM Sheikh Hasina, slammed the government, saying crimes like rape and mob violence have increased in the past 11 months.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the BNP leader, also demanded strong action against the accused. He said the country cannot move forward if women are not safe in their own homes.
The victim’s pain has united people of all religions and political views. Many are calling this a turning point for women’s rights in Bangladesh.
This is more than just a crime. It’s a call for justice, reform, and protection for women, especially minorities. Bangladesh is angry, and the world is watching.
