The Russian government said on Friday that it cannot achieve its goals in Ukraine through peaceful talks at the moment. So, it will continue its military actions, which Russia calls a “special military operation.”
This statement came just after Russia carried out its largest drone and missile attack on Ukrainian cities overnight.
According to Ukraine, Russia launched 550 weapons in total — including 539 drones and 11 missiles — making it the biggest air strike since the war started in 2022.
Ukraine’s air force reported that it managed to shoot down 268 drones and two missiles.
In Kyiv, the capital city, loud explosions and buzzing drones were heard throughout the night. Flashes lit up the sky, and many people had to hide in shelters to stay safe.

Tymur, a local resident, said this attack was worse than any before. “So many explosions… nothing like this has happened,” he said. “Peaceful people live here. That’s all.”
A Kremlin spokesperson said they would prefer to solve the conflict through political and diplomatic means, but since that’s not possible right now, the military operation will go on.
