The Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism, celebrated his 90th birthday on Sunday. People from around the world, including world leaders, wished him good health and a long life.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a heartfelt message, calling the Dalai Lama “an enduring symbol of love.” He said the Dalai Lama’s message of compassion, patience, and discipline has gained respect across all religions.

“I join 1.4 billion Indians in wishing His Holiness the Dalai Lama a happy 90th birthday. He has inspired people worldwide with his message of love and peace. We pray for his good health and long life,” PM Modi wrote on social media platform X.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also sent his wishes. He said the Dalai Lama continues to inspire the world with his teachings of peace, unity, and compassion.

In his own birthday message, the Dalai Lama said he would keep working on his life goals. These include promoting human values, encouraging religious harmony, and spreading ancient Indian wisdom about the mind and emotions. He also highlighted the importance of Tibetan culture and its message of peace and compassion.

Issue of Dalai Lama’s Successor

There is a disagreement between China and Tibet about who will succeed the Dalai Lama. China claims it has the right to choose his next successor, but the Dalai Lama disagrees.

The United States has asked China to stop interfering in the matter, saying the decision should be made by Tibetans.
