A Morning Walk Turns Fatal: Arunachal’s Former MLA Kapchen Rajkumar Trampled by Elephant

In a heartbreaking incident, former Arunachal Pradesh MLA Kapchen Rajkumar died after being trampled by a wild elephant during his morning walk. The tragedy happened while he was walking from Namsang village to Deomali in the Tirap district on Wednesday morning.

Kapchen Rajkumar, aged 65, was a respected political leader and is survived by his wife and children. He had earlier served as an MLA for the Khonsa North Assembly Constituency from 1985 to 1990.

Official Confirmations & Reactions

Tirap’s Superintendent of Police Aditya confirmed the unfortunate death, saying the incident took place when Rajkumar was walking towards Deomali from his village.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed deep sorrow over the loss. Posting on social media platform X, he wrote:

“I am deeply saddened to hear about the tragic passing of Late Kapchen Rajkumar, former MLA from Tirap, who fell victim to a very unfortunate incident. His dedication to serving the community and his contributions to our society will always be remembered.”

Khandu also said the state government will provide financial help to the family and has started the process for the ex-gratia compensation.

State Environment and Forest Minister Wangki Lowang, who represents Namsang constituency, also shared his condolences:

“Deeply saddened to hear that former MLA Kapchen Rajkumar lost his life in a tragic wild elephant attack this morning. My heartfelt condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace.”

About Kapchen Rajkumar

Kapchen Rajkumar was born on April 15, 1960, in Namsang village. His father, Wangmei Rajkumar, was the acting chief of their village.

He studied at Ramakrishna Mission School, Narottamnagar, and later completed his higher education from Government Higher Secondary School, Khonsa. He even pursued commercial pilot training at Safdarjung Airport in New Delhi.

The tragic death of this former leader has shocked the state, and many people are mourning his untimely loss.
