Team India faced a big setback on Day 1 of the third Test match against England at Lord’s when vice-captain Rishabh Pant got injured. He hurt the fingers on his left hand while trying to stop a wide delivery from Jasprit Bumrah during the 34th over.
Pant was seen in a lot of pain and was treated on the field for about five minutes. He then walked off the ground in the next over. It looked like the ball had hit his fingertips. After Pant left, Dhruv Jurel took over as the wicketkeeper.
Later, the BCCI gave an update saying that Pant was being monitored by the medical team. “Team India vice-captain Rishabh Pant got hit on his left index finger. He is receiving treatment and is under the supervision of the medical team. Dhruv Jurel is currently keeping wickets in his absence,” said the BCCI in a statement.

What if Pant Can’t Bat?
If Pant is unable to bat, it will be a major blow to India’s batting lineup. He already scored a century in this series, and his absence would mean India will have one less batter, as per the rules. Dhruv Jurel, who replaced him as the keeper, is not allowed to bat because only concussion or COVID substitutes can bat or bowl. Regular substitutes are only allowed to field.

Match Situation – Day 1
At the end of Day 1, England looked strong at 196/4 in 63 overs after choosing to bat first. Joe Root was still at the crease with 70 runs, Ben Stokes was on 16, and Ollie Pope earlier scored 44. For India, Nitish Kumar Reddy took two wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja took one each.
The Test series is currently tied at 1-1.
