The Delhi Police has asked all e-commerce websites and social media platforms to immediately stop listing, selling, and delivering firecrackers in Delhi.

This move follows an order from the Delhi government on December 19, 2024, and a Supreme Court statement on May 6, 2025, that stressed the need to reduce air pollution caused by firecrackers.

The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has told online platforms to:

  • Remove all firecracker listings.
  • Block the option to buy firecrackers for people in Delhi.
  • Use location tracking to stop firecracker sales and deliveries in the city.
  • Publish a public notice informing people about the ban.
  • Make sure their delivery teams do not accept or deliver firecrackers within Delhi.

These platforms must also give written proof that they are following these rules.

The goal is to protect public health during times when pollution levels are high, especially around festivals.

Police have also sent warnings to banquet halls, marriage venues, hotels, and event spaces, asking them to strictly follow the ban.

“Anyone who breaks the rules will face criminal charges, as this is a total and strict ban set by both the Delhi government and the Supreme Court,” said Special Commissioner of Police (Crime) Devesh Chandra Srivastva.

Local police stations have been told to make sure all the concerned places get these instructions.
