Navi Mumbai airport

After years of planning, building, and waiting, the Navi Mumbai airport is finally almost ready. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has confirmed it’s 94% complete. The state is now aiming to begin flights by September 30.

Over 13,000 workers are on-site, racing to meet the deadline. This is not just any airport—it’s set to become India’s most modern airport, packed with next-gen features, green energy systems, and superfast baggage handling.

India’s Smartest Airport Is Coming

Fadnavis, along with Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, visited the NMIA site to check progress. The big parts like runways and terminals are done. Now, finishing touches like interiors and design work are in progress.

He proudly said the airport will have the fastest baggage claim system in the world. The luggage system can read barcode tags from every angle—making wait times almost zero. There are even plans to allow passengers to check-in their luggage from different cities!

Powered by Green Energy, Built for the Future

The new Navi Mumbai airport will run entirely on green power—a massive 37 MW of it. There will be electric vehicles, green aviation fuel, and AI systems to make operations smooth and smart.

The airport is planned to handle up to 90 million passengers a year, which is more than Mumbai’s current airport. That means fewer delays and more flight options for travellers across India.

360-Degree Connectivity From All Directions

To avoid traffic mess, there will be direct connections via road, rail, metro, and even water transport.

  • The Atal Setu-Coastal Road will be ready by 2026
  • A new elevated road from Thane is also coming
  • Suburban rail and metro lines will link up
  • Waterways and ferries will offer another route in

And the best part? You’ll be able to check in your bags from the city and head to the airport bag-free.

No Walking, No Traffic, Just Glide Through

Phase two will include an underground train system—like a metro—for smooth movement across terminals. You won’t need to walk much. Travelators will help you move, and cars won’t crowd the terminal gates.

This smart design keeps the airport efficient and stress-free.

🇮🇳 Built by Maharashtra, Backed by India

The Navi Mumbai airport is a joint project between Adani Airport Holdings and CIDCO. The foundation was laid in 2018 by PM Narendra Modi. Now, his green signal is the only thing left before launch.

It’s not just an airport. It’s a symbol of India’s growth, planning, and power to deliver under pressure.

September 30 could be a big day—for Maharashtra, and for every Indian flyer.
