In a major overnight attack, Russia fired more than 620 drones and missiles at Ukraine. The Ukrainian government reported four people were killed and over 20 injured in the strikes, which hit areas across the country — from Kharkiv and Sumy in the east to Lviv and Bukovyna in the west.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy strongly condemned the attack and urged international leaders to take quick and firm action. He called for tougher sanctions on Russia and on countries helping Russia with weapons and oil profits.

Posting on social media platform X, Zelenskyy said, “Russia used 26 cruise missiles and 597 attack drones, most of them were Iranian-made Shaheds. Our air defense teams shot down many of them — I’m grateful for their efforts.”

Last night, Russia’s strikes extended from the Kharkiv and Sumy regions to the Lviv region and Bukovyna. 26 cruise missiles and 597 attack drones were launched, more than half of them were “shaheds.” More than 20 missiles and the vast majority of drones were destroyed. In western Ukraine’s Chernivtsi region, two people were killed and 20 were injured. Six people were hurt in Lviv. In the eastern regions, two people died in Dnipropetrovsk and three were injured in Kharkiv.

Russia’s defense ministry claimed they targeted Ukrainian military factories and facilities, including a military airfield in Lviv, Kharkiv, and Lutsk.

In response, Ukrainian forces launched strikes on Friday that reportedly killed three Russians.

These attacks come as peace talks led by the U.S. have stalled. The war has now lasted nearly three and a half years, with both sides increasing their air attacks in recent months.

Zelenskyy stressed that stronger actions are urgently needed. He said sanctions against drone suppliers and oil profiteers can slow Russia down. He also asked for more air defense systems and investment in interceptor drones.

“This war can only be stopped by strength,” Zelenskyy said. “We don’t just need promises — we need real actions that will save lives.”
