Fact or Fiction? Trump’s Claim of Jets Downed in India-Pak Conflict Raises Questions

US President Donald Trump recently made a bold claim that around four to five fighter jets were shot down during a skirmish between India and Pakistan. His comments have stirred debate on social media, with people from both countries arguing about who lost more jets and who came out stronger.

At a dinner with Republican lawmakers, Trump mentioned that things were getting serious between India and Pakistan, with planes being “shot out of the air.” He didn’t say which country lost the jets or where he got this information from. He also said that the US helped stop the conflict by using trade talks as leverage, warning both sides against escalating the fight, especially with nuclear weapons.

However, India’s government has rejected Trump’s version of events, and experts say the conflict never reached a nuclear threat level.

Still, reports have suggested that India did lose some aircraft in the early stages of the skirmish. Indian military officials reportedly had orders not to attack Pakistani military targets at first, only militant sites. This strategy might have made Indian jets more vulnerable. But after some early losses, India changed its tactics and started targeting Pakistani military installations.

A report even claimed that five Indian aircraft, including a Rafale jet, were destroyed. It also suggested that Pakistan’s Chinese-made J-10 jets and advanced missiles gave them an early edge. China may have also helped Pakistan with intelligence and targeting.

An Indian defense official was quoted saying that the losses were partly due to political restrictions, and once those were removed, India responded strongly by damaging several Pakistani airbases.

while Trump claimed multiple jets were shot down, the full picture is complex. Both sides may have suffered losses, but India appears to have gained the upper hand after changing its strategy.
