Two Indian workers were killed and another was kidnapped during a terrorist attack on July 15 in the Dosso region of Niger, West Africa. The Indian Embassy in Niger’s capital, Niamey, confirmed the incident on social media.

According to local reports, armed men attacked an army unit that was guarding a construction site about 130 km from Niamey. During the attack, two Indians lost their lives, and one was taken away by the attackers.

The Indian Embassy said they are working closely with local authorities to bring back the bodies of those who died and to ensure the safe return of the person who was kidnapped. The embassy has also asked all Indians living in Niger to stay alert.

One of the men who died has been identified as Ganesh Karmali, 39, from Karipani village in Bokaro district, Jharkhand. His family is now waiting for his body to be brought back to India. According to a local official, the process of bringing his body home has started.

Foreign Workers Being Targeted

Foreign workers in Niger are becoming targets for terrorist groups. In recent months, several foreign nationals have been kidnapped, including five Indians in April, a Swiss woman, and an Austrian aid worker.

Niger has been fighting terrorist groups linked to al-Qaida and the Islamic State for many years. In June, over 100 people were killed in violent attacks in the Tillaberi and Dosso regions, making it one of the deadliest months in recent history, according to a conflict tracking organization.
