Fast bowler Anshul Kamboj from Haryana has joined the Indian cricket team in Manchester for the remaining two Test matches of the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England.
The 24-year-old has been called in as a backup for left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh, who got injured during a practice session. Arshdeep suffered a deep cut on his bowling hand while trying to stop a shot from Sai Sudharsan and required stitches. He hasn’t played a Test match yet but was being considered for the fourth Test as a replacement for a main bowler.
India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate mentioned that the final team lineup for the upcoming match will depend on how serious Arshdeep’s injury is. “We’ll take a call closer to the Manchester Test, especially after assessing Arshdeep’s condition,” he said.
The fourth Test will be played at Old Trafford in Manchester starting July 23. With another pacer, Akash Deep, also suffering an injury during the Lord’s Test, there’s a chance Anshul Kamboj might get a chance to make his Test debut.
Anshul has been in good form recently. He played for India A last month and took five wickets in two three-day matches. He made headlines in the Ranji Trophy last season by taking all ten wickets in a single innings — a rare achievement matched by only two others in history.
He also performed well in domestic tournaments, taking 17 wickets in 10 matches and helping Haryana win the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2023. This led to an IPL contract with Mumbai Indians, where he played three matches.

In the 2025 IPL season, he moved to Chennai Super Kings. Though he didn’t play at first, he later took eight wickets in eight games with a solid economy rate of 8.00.
Anshul’s recent performances have been impressive, and with multiple injuries in the Indian camp, he could soon get his big break in Test cricket.
