Indian cricketer Veda Krishnamurthy has announced her retirement from international cricket. The 32-year-old batter, who played for India for over 10 years, shared an emotional message on social media to say goodbye to her playing career.
In her post, she wrote:
“From a small-town girl with big dreams to wearing the India jersey with pride. Grateful for everything cricket gave me – the lessons, the people, the memories. It’s time to say goodbye to playing, but not to the game. Always for India. Always for the team.”
Veda played in:
- 48 One Day Internationals (ODIs), scoring 829 runs
- 76 T20 Internationals, scoring 875 runs
She was known for her aggressive batting style and often helped the team during tough situations. Her last T20 match for India was against Australia in 2020, and her last ODI was in 2018.
In domestic cricket, she played for the Gujarat Giants in the 2023 Women’s Premier League, with her last match being against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Apart from cricket, Veda’s life has seen personal challenges. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she lost both her mother and sister in a short time. Her courage during that difficult time inspired many in the cricket world.
She is now married to former Karnataka cricketer Arjun Hoysala and although she has retired from playing, she plans to stay connected to cricket in a new role.
