Chinese tech giant Huawei Technologies has introduced a new AI chip system called CloudMatrix 384, aiming to compete with Nvidia’s most advanced chip system, GB200 NVL72. Huawei unveiled this new technology at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai.

What is CloudMatrix 384?

CloudMatrix 384 is an AI computing system that uses 384 of Huawei’s 910C chips. This system is designed for high-speed processing and advanced AI tasks. It has gained attention worldwide since it was announced in April, especially because it could compete with — or even outperform — Nvidia’s technology in some areas.

Huawei is currently banned from accessing many U.S. semiconductor technologies due to export restrictions. Despite this, Huawei has become a key player in China’s efforts to build its own AI chip ecosystem.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang’s Warning

Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang has spoken about Huawei’s fast progress. In an interview, he warned that if the U.S. continues to restrict chip exports to China, Huawei will benefit and could dominate the AI chip market in China — and maybe even elsewhere.

Huang stated, “Our technology is a generation ahead, but if the U.S. doesn’t participate in China, Huawei has China and everyone else covered.”

He also emphasized the importance of developers using the American technology stack instead of relying on China’s tech base.

Experts Say Huawei Might Take the Lead

Tech analyst Dylan Patel from SemiAnalysis said that Huawei’s new system might outperform Nvidia’s in certain areas. He credited Huawei’s “supernode” architecture — which helps chips connect faster — as one of the key reasons behind this advantage.

Huawei is stepping up in the AI chip race, challenging Nvidia with its new CloudMatrix 384 system. Despite U.S. sanctions, Huawei is gaining momentum, and Nvidia’s CEO has warned that restrictions on China could end up helping Huawei grow even stronger.
