IndiGo has banned a passenger from flying on any of its flights after he slapped another passenger during a flight from Mumbai to Kolkata on Friday.
The incident happened when a passenger, who was having a panic attack, got up from his seat and started crying and walking in the aisle, asking to get off the plane. As he passed by, another passenger, identified as Hafijul Rahaman, slapped him. The man who was slapped is named Hossain Ahmed Majumder.
Other passengers and the crew quickly helped the victim and calmed him down. The flight then continued to Kolkata without any further trouble.
Once the plane landed, IndiGo handed the attacker over to the police and also filed a legal complaint. The police confirmed that they received the complaint and legal action has already started.
IndiGo posted on social media that they take such behaviour seriously and have banned the attacker from flying with them. They also informed the authorities about the incident.
It is now up to other airlines in India to decide whether they also want to ban the same person, until the government puts him on the official “no-fly list” for unruly passengers. This list was created after earlier incidents where other airlines banned people for misbehaving, including an MP.
IndiGo stated, “The safety and well-being of our passengers and crew is our top priority. We are committed to keeping a safe and respectful environment onboard.”
