Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and senior tribal leader Shibu Soren passed away on August 4 at the age of 81 after a long illness. He was being treated for kidney problems at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi and had been on life support since June 19. The hospital confirmed his death at 8:56 am on Monday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the hospital to pay his respects and met Soren’s family, including Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren. In a message, PM Modi said,

“Shibu Soren Ji was a leader close to the people. He worked hard to improve the lives of tribal communities, the poor, and the underprivileged. His passing is deeply saddening.”

Known as “Dishom Guru”, Shibu Soren was a respected figure in Jharkhand politics and tribal movements. His son, Hemant Soren, expressed his deep grief, saying,

“Respected Dishom Guruji has left us all. I feel empty today.”

The Jharkhand Assembly was adjourned, and the state government declared three days of mourning. Soren’s body will be taken to Ranchi, then to the Assembly, and finally to his village Nemra.

Leaders from across India paid tribute. Bihar CM Nitish Kumar said Soren’s contributions were very important and called his death a huge loss. RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav called him a fellow fighter for social justice, and Tejashwi Yadav described him as a guardian whose work for tribal rights will always be remembered.
