Tesla CEO Elon Musk has revealed that Tesla drivers might soon be able to play video games inside their cars. This feature could be available within the next 3 to 6 months, depending on approval from local authorities.
This came after a user on X (formerly Twitter) shared a video of someone playing a game inside a car and asked Musk, “When can I do this?” Musk replied, “Probably 3 to 6 months, depending on regulatory approval in your city and state.”
In the same thread, another user asked when Tesla’s robotaxi would be available in Chicago. Musk responded that he wasn’t sure about Illinois’ status but said a good way to know is by checking if Waymo (another self-driving car company) is already operating there. If so, robotaxis are likely allowed. Musk added that Tesla would start operating once safety testing is complete and they get official approval.
However, this news came just a day after Tesla was ordered to pay hundreds of millions of dollars for a deadly crash in 2019. The crash happened in Key Largo, Florida, when a Tesla using its Autopilot system crashed into a Chevrolet SUV. The accident caused the death of Naibel Benavides Leon and injured her boyfriend Dillon Angulo.

A jury found Tesla’s Autopilot system partly responsible for the crash. They awarded $200 million in punitive damages and $59 million to Leon’s family. Angulo was awarded $70 million for his injuries.
Tesla responded by saying the verdict was wrong and could slow down progress in making cars safer with new technology.
