Bahrain has announced its first big solar power project — a 150 megawatt (MW) solar plant that will produce enough clean electricity to power around 6,300 homes. This marks a major step in the country’s shift towards renewable energy.
The project will be built in South Bahrain, near Bilaj Al Jazayer, covering an area of about 1.2 square kilometers. It is expected to start operating by the third quarter of 2027.

Why This Project Matters
This solar plant is part of Bahrain’s National Renewable Energy Plan, which aims to:

- Prevent more than 100,000 tons of carbon emissions each year
