A small private plane crashed while landing at Kalispell City Airport in Montana on Monday afternoon, hitting another parked aircraft and causing a large fire. Thankfully, no one was seriously hurt.

The plane, a single-engine Socata TBM 700 built in 2011, was carrying four people when it attempted to land around 2:00 p.m., according to Kalispell Police Chief Jordan Venezio and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

While landing, the plane hit another aircraft on the ground. The impact caused a fire that spread to nearby grass before firefighters put it out. Several aircraft at the airport were affected.

Witnesses said they saw the plane approach from the south, crash at the end of the runway, and then collide with the parked aircraft. The landing plane caught fire, but the pilot and three passengers managed to escape on their own. Two passengers had minor injuries and were treated at the airport.

Kalispell City Airport is a small airport just south of Kalispell, a city with about 30,000 residents in northwest Montana. FAA records show the plane is owned by Meter Sky LLC from Pullman, Washington.

Aviation safety expert Jeff Guzzetti said such accidents — where a landing plane hits a parked one — happen a few times each year in general aviation.
