Shubman Gill, the captain of Gujarat Titans (GT), got into another argument with an on-field umpire during the IPL 2025 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Friday. This led some fans to accuse him of using his aggression to try and copy Virat Kohli’s behavior.
The incident happened during the 14th over of SRH’s chase when Abhishek Sharma, who was batting well with 68 runs, faced a delivery from GT’s Prasidh Krishna. The ball hit Sharma on the pads, and the umpire ruled it not out. Gujarat Titans decided to review the decision, but it stayed as “umpire’s call,” meaning the decision wasn’t overturned, though they didn’t lose their review.

However, Shubman Gill wasn’t happy with the decision and showed his frustration. He argued with the umpires and showed aggressive body language. Abhishek Sharma, his teammate from Punjab, had to step in multiple times to calm Gill down and prevent him from confronting the umpires further.
Later, Gill admitted that his emotions got the best of him, saying, “There was a little bit of a discussion with the umpire, sometimes there are so many emotions involved as you give your 110 percent, there are bound to be some emotions.”
The incident sparked criticism from fans. Some accused Gill of trying to act like Virat Kohli by arguing with the umpires in nearly every match. One fan tweeted, “He is trying too hard to be the Virat Kohli of this generation, and it can be annoying at times.” Another fan criticized Gill’s behavior, calling it disrespectful towards the umpires and suggesting that he should be banned for two matches.
Despite the drama, the match continued, and the DRS decision didn’t matter much as Abhishek Sharma was dismissed in the next over. In the end, SRH was bowled out for 186, falling short by 38 runs in the chase of 225 set by Gujarat Titans.
