US President Donald Trump wants the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan to ease as soon as possible, according to a statement from the White House on Friday.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt shared that the President is closely watching the situation and understands that India and Pakistan have been in conflict for many years. She mentioned that both countries have been at odds long before Trump became president.
The remarks come after India carried out airstrikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on Wednesday. The strikes were in retaliation for an attack in Pahalgam on April 22 that killed 26 people, mostly tourists.

Trump’s Relationship with India and Pakistan
Leavitt further added that President Trump has good relations with both India and Pakistan. She explained that US Senator Marco Rubio, who serves as the National Security Advisor, has been in constant touch with both nations’ leaders to help resolve the situation.
Rubio also spoke with India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday. During the calls, Rubio stressed the urgent need to reduce tensions and urged Pakistan to take serious steps to stop supporting terrorism.

On the other hand, India’s Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, condemned Pakistan for attacking places of worship, calling it a new low in the conflict.
