At least 26 people died in an attack on a place where aid was being given out in Rafah, Gaza. This place is run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which is supported by the United States and Israel, according to Palestinian and Hamas-linked media reports on Sunday.

Israel has not yet said anything about the attack.

The GHF started working recently in Gaza to distribute help to people. Because they check people’s identities carefully, some Palestinians worry that the group may not be neutral. But Israel approved the group, saying these checks help stop people connected to Hamas from getting aid.

On May 28, Hamas said the Israeli military killed three Palestinians and hurt 46 near one of GHF’s aid points. But GHF denied these claims.

Thousands of Palestinians came to the aid center to get help. The Israeli military said it fired warning shots outside the center to regain control of the area.
