Indonesia’s Ministry of Communications has approved a telecommunications permit for certain models of Apple’s iPhone 16 series. This is an important step towards allowing these phones to be sold in the country.

Just a week ago, Indonesia granted local content certificates for the iPhone 16 models, issuing five different certificates. Now, the telecommunications permit has been approved for five models: iPhone 16e, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Earlier, Indonesia had banned the sale of iPhone 16 models because Apple did not meet the country’s rules on using locally-made components. However, Apple has now agreed to invest over $1 billion in Indonesia. This includes building factories and a research and development center, which helped lift the ban.

Although Apple has received the telecommunications permit, it still needs to get an import permit from Indonesia’s trade ministry before it can start selling these phones.

This approval is a big step for Apple as it tries to expand in Indonesia, a country with a huge market. For Indonesia, it brings more foreign investment and strengthens its manufacturing industry. The decision benefits both Apple and Indonesia, offering more choices to consumers and boosting economic growth.
