Neeraj Chopra is back where he belongs—right at the top. The Indian javelin star has reclaimed his No. 1 spot in the world rankings after a stellar run in 2025. According to Olympics.com, World Athletics updated the rankings this week, placing Neeraj Chopra at the top with 1,445 points.
He dethroned Anderson Peters of Grenada, who now stands at 1,431 points. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who had a dream run at the Paris Olympics, has dropped to fourth with 1,370 points. Germany’s Julian Weber, who holds the best throw of 2025 (91.06m in Doha), sits at third. Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch completes the top five.

From Silver in Paris to Gold Runs in 2025
Neeraj Chopra had briefly lost the top spot to Peters in September 2024. That was right after the Paris Olympics, where Neeraj took silver with a throw of 89.45m. Arshad Nadeem had stunned the world by breaking the Olympic record with a throw of 92.97m to win gold.
But 2025 has been a different story.
Neeraj began his season with a win at the Potch Invitational in South Africa. Then came his career-best throw—90.23m at the Doha Diamond League, landing him a second-place finish but winning hearts for finally crossing the 90m barrier.
He didn’t stop there.

A Streak of Brilliance
In Poland’s Janusz Kusocinski Memorial, Neeraj took second place again. But then, he bounced back in style—winning gold at both the Paris Diamond League and the Ostrava Golden Spike. His best throws were 88.16m and 85.29m, respectively.
More importantly, he beat Anderson Peters in all four of their head-to-head battles this year. That includes Doha, Paris, Ostrava, and Potchefstroom. The last time Peters had an edge was way back in 2022, at the World Championships, where Neeraj had to settle for silver.
Why This Matters
This is more than just a number. For Indian athletics, Neeraj Chopra is the benchmark. He’s not just India’s first Olympic gold medallist in track and field—he’s now consistently proving himself against the world’s best, year after year.
With Arshad Nadeem sliding down and Peters trailing behind, Neeraj’s steady rise reflects not just talent but work ethic and consistency.
