A video titled “Welcome to Afghanistan” is going viral—and not for the right reasons. It looks like a hostage video, sounds like a joke, but the message? Pure propaganda.

This 50-second clip was reportedly made by something called the Raza Afghanistan Tour Agency. It starts with a dark, creepy scene. Two men kneel with cloth bags over their heads. The music is upbeat, but the visuals remind everyone of terror videos from the past.

The cover is lifted. One man smiles at the camera and says, “Welcome to Afghanistan” while giving a thumbs-up. Behind him? An armed man.

Then comes the weirdest part. A Taliban-style gunman puts a flower in the barrel of his AK-47. The message is clear: “We’re friendly now.” The vibe? Anything but.

This Taliban tourism video is now everywhere online. It’s getting slammed by users calling it “disturbing,” “creepy,” and “darkly ironic.” One person wrote, “This isn’t a travel ad. It’s a warning.” Another said, “How can they promote tourism with visuals that scream war crime?”

The video was posted by several Afghan social media handles, but it quickly caught global attention. Even The Independent reported on it.

This isn’t just bad taste. It’s part of a bigger problem. Since the Taliban took over in August 2021, life in Afghanistan has gotten worse—especially for women. A recent UN Women report said the country has hit the bottom when it comes to gender rights and freedom.

The 2024 Afghanistan Gender Index shows how deeply women and girls are suffering under Taliban rule. No school. No jobs. No basic rights.
