India fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has been fined by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for his behavior during the fourth day of the third Test match against England at Lord’s. Siraj was penalized for using “provocative language and gestures” after taking a wicket.
What Happened?
The incident occurred in the sixth over of England’s second innings. Siraj dismissed England opener Ben Duckett for 12 runs. After taking the wicket, Siraj celebrated very aggressively near Duckett and even made slight contact with him as Duckett walked off the field.
Because of this, Siraj was found guilty of breaking Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct. This rule says players should not use language or actions that might provoke a negative reaction from the batter after they are dismissed.
What Penalty Did He Get?
- Siraj was fined 15% of his match fee.
- He also received one demerit point.
- This is his second offence in the last 24 months, bringing his total to two demerit points.
- If a player gets four or more demerit points within 24 months, it leads to a suspension.
