Prince Alwaleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, known as Saudi Arabia’s ‘Sleeping Prince’, has passed away at the age of 36. He had been in a coma for nearly 20 years after a car accident in London in 2005.

The prince was only 15 years old and studying at a military college in London when the accident happened. He suffered serious brain injuries and internal bleeding. Since then, he was kept on life support and never fully regained consciousness. Though he showed slight movements at times, he remained in a coma. His family brought in medical experts from the U.S. and Spain to treat him, but he did not recover.

In 2020, a video shared on social media showed the prince slightly moving his fingers in response to someone greeting him. His father, Prince Khaled bin Talal, cared for him over the years and refused to remove life support, holding on to hope.

Prince Alwaleed was being treated at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh since the accident. His father confirmed the sad news, saying they accept God’s will with heavy hearts.
