The job of a recruiter may be on the clock. According to Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas, artificial intelligence is moving fast. In a recent interview with The Verge, he said something bold: “A recruiter’s work worth one week is just one prompt.”
Let that sink in. A full week of human effort can now be done by AI in seconds.

Srinivas was talking about Comet, the new AI agent developed by Perplexity. It’s more than a search engine. It understands tasks, completes them, and gives results without anyone needing to guide it step-by-step.
He gave a strong example. Comet can find engineers from top colleges like Stanford, who have worked at big AI companies. It can collect their LinkedIn profiles, find contact info, and send personalized emails. All of this happens without a person touching the keyboard.
That means a huge part of the recruiting process is now automated.
According to Srinivas, recruiters will be the first to feel this change. Why? Because most of what they do—finding people, reaching out, setting interviews—can now be done by tools like Comet.

But it doesn’t stop with recruiters. Executive assistants might be next. Comet can also log into your Gmail and Calendar (if you allow it), set meetings, fix schedule problems, follow up on emails, and even write notes for you before a meeting.
Srinivas believes this is the start of a big change. In his words, humans will stop doing the steps. Instead, they’ll just tell AI what result they want. AI will do everything else.
Of course, this also raises a big worry. If AI is doing all this, what happens to jobs?
Some see it as progress. Work gets faster, and people can focus on bigger things. Others fear this means fewer jobs for humans.
Either way, Srinivas is sure of one thing: recruiters have just six months left before AI fully takes over.
It may sound shocking. But if tools like Perplexity’s Comet keep improving at this speed, this future might be closer than we think.
