Heart attacks are becoming more common, especially among younger people. The main reasons are unhealthy eating habits, lack of exercise, high stress, and even family history.

Dr. Bimal Chhajer, a well-known cardiologist from Saaol, says that today’s fast-paced lifestyle — full of stress, junk food, and sitting for long hours — is harming our hearts.

Why does heart disease happen?
Heart problems start when fatty substances (plaque) build up inside the arteries. This makes it harder for blood to flow, which increases the risk of a heart attack. The main causes include:

  • High cholesterol
  • High blood pressure
  • Diabetes
  • Obesity
  • Smoking
  • Stress

Can exercise help?
While exercise can’t directly remove the plaque in your arteries, it can stop it from growing, improve blood flow, and make your heart stronger. This reduces the risk of future heart problems.

How to protect your heart
Dr. Chhajer recommends adding these activities to your daily routine:

  • Cardio exercises like walking, running, swimming, or cycling
  • Flexibility training to keep your body moving freely
  • Resistance workouts using bands, push-ups, or squats
  • Yoga for relaxation and flexibility
  • Regular movement such as stretching, standing up often, and taking short walks

By making these lifestyle changes and managing stress, you can greatly improve your heart health and lower your risk of heart disease.
