Hackers infiltrated Oracle’s servers, stealing sensitive patient data—is your healthcare provider next?
What Happened?
The FBI is investigating a cyberattack targeting Oracle, one of the world’s largest tech companies. According to Bloomberg News, hackers breached Oracle’s servers and stole patient data, aiming to extort multiple U.S. medical providers.
The attack occurred sometime after January 22, but Oracle only became aware of it around February 20. The hackers accessed older servers from Cerner Corp, a healthcare IT company Oracle acquired in 2022. These servers stored data that hadn’t yet been moved to Oracle’s cloud storage.

Why Is This Serious?
Oracle’s $28 billion purchase of Cerner expanded its role in electronic health records, putting more patient data at risk. The breach could affect countless medical providers, though it’s still unclear how many records were stolen or which hospitals were targeted.
What’s Next?
The FBI has remained tight-lipped, and Oracle hasn’t commented on the incident. Meanwhile, concerns grow over healthcare cybersecurity, especially since Cerner holds a massive $16 billion contract with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs—a system already plagued by outages and scrutiny.
