The High Court took suo motu (on its own) action after Shah made a remark in a viral video, saying that “a terrorist’s sister from their community” was sent to kill them. Many people believed he was referring to Colonel Qureshi.
The court’s division bench—Justice Atul Shridharan and Justice Anuradha Shukla—ordered that an FIR (First Information Report) must be filed against Shah by 6 PM on Wednesday. The police were told to report back once the FIR is filed. The next hearing is set for 10:30 AM on Thursday.
Shah’s comment created a huge political controversy. The Congress party demanded his immediate removal from the Madhya Pradesh government. Facing criticism, Shah said he was sorry if anyone was hurt by his words and added, “I am ready to apologize 10 times”. He also said he respects Colonel Qureshi “more than I respect my own sister.”
