Heavy rains and sudden cloudbursts triggered Himachal flash floods, claiming three lives so far. Two bodies were found in Kangra on Wednesday. Another was pulled out from a hydroelectric project site on Thursday. Yet, the search is far from over.
Eight people are still missing. Rescuers are working around the clock in Kangra and Kullu, where flash floods devastated labour camps and homes. The terrain is rough. The rain hasn’t stopped. But the search hasn’t either.

Labourers Swept Away in Minutes
At the Indira Priyadarshini Hydroelectric project near Khaniyara in Kangra, water levels rose suddenly. Around 15–20 labourers were resting when the flood hit. Only some were rescued. Others were swept away. Authorities confirmed two deaths at the site. The body count may rise.
Locals say it wasn’t just nature — it was negligence.
BJP MLA Sudhir Sharma, who lives near the project, called out the officials and the contractor. He said no one shifted the workers even when the weather worsened. He demanded an investigation and compensation for families of the dead.
“Sheds were built too close to the drain. This is pure negligence,” Sharma said.

Missing in Kullu Too
Over in Rehla Bihal village in Kullu, three people are still unaccounted for. They were trying to save their belongings when the water came rushing in. One of them is just 14 years old.
Flash floods also struck Manali and Banjar. Roads are blocked. Power and water lines are down. Villages like Sainj, Gadsa, and Hornagad are cut off. Relief work is slow, but ongoing.
Banjar MLA Surinder Shauri has asked officials to ensure urgent help and clear blocked roads.
Locals Want Accountability
While rescue teams from the NDRF, SDRF, police, and home guards are pushing ahead, locals aren’t just mourning — they’re angry. Many feel this tragedy could’ve been prevented.
The Deputy Commissioner has warned tourists to stay away from low-lying and riverside areas during monsoon. But for those already hit, warnings came too late.
