India and Pakistan are expected to be placed in the same group for the Asia Cup 2025, which will take place in the UAE, according to a report.
This major T20 cricket tournament had been uncertain due to a recent terror attack in Pahalgam, but things are now back on track. Rajiv Shukla, BCCI’s Vice-President and their representative in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), attended the ACC Annual General Meeting virtually from Dhaka on Thursday, where all doubts were cleared about the tournament.

Key Highlights:
- Venue & Schedule:
Though India is the official host, the matches will be played in Dubai and Abu Dhabi as neutral venues. This is because the ACC has a rule that when India or Pakistan host the tournament, it must be held in a neutral country due to political tensions.
The schedule is expected to be announced soon by BCCI, with matches likely starting in the third or fourth week of September. - India vs Pakistan Match:
The upcoming clash between India and Pakistan in the Asia Cup will be the first since their relationship worsened in April-May, following the Pahalgam terror attack and India’s ‘Operation Sindoor’.
The BCCI is in touch with the Indian government for approval to play against Pakistan. - Commercial Planning & Sponsors:
BCCI’s Rajiv Shukla and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi will soon meet to finalize the venues, schedule, and sponsorship deals, giving enough time for commercial preparations. - Participation & Budget:
A total of eight teams will participate in this edition of the Asia Cup.
The budget for this tournament and six other ACC events in 2025 has been approved in the meeting. Elections were postponed, and the meeting was adjourned to a later date.
The Asia Cup 2025 will also act as a warm-up tournament for the T20 World Cup, which will be hosted by India and Sri Lanka in February next year.
