India’s iPhone Exports Jump 53% in H1 2025 as US Becomes Top Buyer

Apple iPhone

In the first half of 2025, Apple iPhone exports from India jumped 53% compared to last year. India shipped 23.9 million iPhones, up from 15.6 million units in H1 2024. This is the fastest-ever growth for Apple from its Indian base, according to data from Canalys.

The biggest reason? The United States.

This year, 78% of all iPhones exported from India went to the US. That’s a sharp rise from just 53% in 2024. Other countries like the Netherlands, UAE, UK, Japan, and Czech Republic saw their share drop, each now taking only about 2% to 4%.

Who’s building these iPhones?

Foxconn leads the way, making more than half the iPhones exported. But here’s the surprise — Tata Group now makes 4 out of every 10 iPhones that leave India. That’s huge.

This shift shows how Apple is now trusting India more. Factories are becoming more efficient, quality is better, and Apple seems more confident in its Indian setup.

iPhone 17 trials start in India

Big news — trial production of the iPhone 17 has already started in India. Foxconn has begun early assembly work, and Tata Electronics is making parts like casings.

Customs data from June shows a big jump in key iPhone 17 parts being imported to Foxconn’s India plant. That means Apple may be preparing for a global launch with India fully involved — and way earlier than usual.

Why this matters

If India can produce the iPhone 17 in sync with China, it would be a game-changer. For years, India was just a backup. Now, it might become a launch partner.

Yes, there are some risks. Reports say some Chinese engineers have left Foxconn India. But Apple is pushing forward by hiring local Indian, Taiwanese, and Vietnamese talent.

Experts see this as a turning point.

“India is being tested right now,” said Sanyam Chaurasia from Canalys. “If this goes well, India will become a true global engine for Apple — not just a side player.”

Navkendar Singh from IDC agrees. “Despite all the doubts, this is a strong sign. Apple is betting on India big time.”

India’s time in Apple’s spotlight may have just begun.
