The fight between Donald Trump and Elon Musk just got more intense. And this time, the keyword is DOGE — not the meme coin, but the Department of Government Efficiency, the body Musk once helped build.
On Tuesday, Trump posted on his Truth Social account, asking DOGE to take a “hard look” at all the money Elon Musk’s companies are getting from the government. He said, “Elon may get more subsidy than any human in history.” He even joked that if the subsidies stopped, Musk might have to “go back to South Africa.”

This comment came just after Musk slammed a massive tax and spending bill. He called the bill “insane” and warned that lawmakers who supported it would lose in the next election. Tesla’s stock dropped nearly 5% in premarket trading right after.
What is DOGE and Why Does It Matter?
DOGE was created to reduce waste in government. It checks if taxpayer money is being used wisely. Musk once supported this department. In fact, he helped push it during Trump’s last term. But now, Trump wants DOGE to investigate the very companies Musk owns—Tesla and SpaceX.
Why? Because SpaceX has $22 billion in government contracts. Tesla benefits from clean energy programs and tax breaks. That’s a lot of public money.

Musk Fights Back—Again
Musk didn’t stay quiet. On X (formerly Twitter), he responded: “I am literally saying CUT IT ALL. Now.” He also called out lawmakers, saying they should feel “shame” for supporting such a huge spending bill.
Musk even suggested starting a new party—the “Porky Pig Party”—claiming both sides are just wasting money. This was surprising, especially since Musk had earlier donated nearly $300 million to Trump’s campaign.
What Happens Now?
If DOGE really investigates Musk’s subsidies, it could hurt Tesla, SpaceX, and even Musk’s robotaxi dreams. The U.S. Transportation Department, which decides on vehicle design, could slow things down too.
And for Republicans, this feud is becoming a headache. Musk’s fans and Trump’s base are now split. Some experts say this drama could affect the 2026 midterms.
One Thing’s Clear:
DOGE has become the new battleground between two of the biggest names in America. It’s not just about saving money—it’s now about ego, control, and power.
