Polycab just landed a fat ₹6,448 crore deal from BSNL, and honestly, this might be their superhero origin story.

They’re not just selling wires anymore. They’re wiring up the entire middle-mile internet backbone for Karnataka, Goa, and Puducherry under the BharatNet program. Think of it like building the veins of India’s digital body—so the internet can flow into even the tiniest villages.

What’s the Big Deal? Literally.

Polycab India, already India’s biggest cable and wire maker, has been picked as the Project Implementation Agency (PIA) for Package 4 of the revamped BharatNet mission.

The deal includes:

  • ₹3,741.92 Cr for building the core infrastructure (Capex)
  • ₹2,245.15 Cr for running the new network (Opex)
  • ₹460.47 Cr for maintaining the existing one

And yes, they’re doing everything—designing, supplying, building, upgrading, operating, and maintaining the network.

Okay, but How Long Will This Take?

Polycab has three years to finish construction. Then, they’re locked in for a 10-year maintenance deal.

Maintenance costs:

  • 5.5% per year of Capex for the first 5 years
  • 6.5% per year of Capex for the next 5 years

Basically, it’s not just a one-night stand. It’s a long-term commitment. Like the Netflix password you gave your cousin—this one’s going to stay.

In the filing, Polycab made it clear: no promoter or group company is involved on the other side of the deal. This is a clean handshake with the government—no backroom Bollywood twists.

Why This Matters

Polycab isn’t just flexing its cables. It’s slowly becoming a serious player in the FMEG (Fast Moving Electrical Goods) and EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) space.

This deal is like a loud speaker yelling: “We’re not just wiring homes, we’re wiring India.”

This isn’t just a business deal. It’s a digital infrastructure move. And with ₹6,448 Cr in the bag, Polycab’s turning into the kind of boss-level player the digital India dream needs.
