Software Team Leader’s Tragic End: Kolkata Techie Jumps from Office Building

The Tragic Tale of a Kolkata Techie: A Life Lost to Depression

A Day Like Any Other

Dwaipayan Bhattacharya, a 50-year-old senior manager at an Indo-American IT company, arrived at his office in Kolkata on a Wednesday afternoon. He logged into his system, just like any other day. But something was different. Colleagues noticed he seemed distressed and distracted.

The Shocking Incident

Around 3 PM, after lunch, a loud thud echoed through the parking lot of Candor Techspace in New Town. Security guards rushed to find Bhattacharya lying face down in a pool of blood. He had jumped from the 6th-floor refuge area of his office building. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital and admitted to the ICU, he succumbed to multiple injuries.

A Life Full of Promise

Bhattacharya, a 1994-batch Presidency University alumnus with a degree in BSc Physics, was leading a team of software engineers. He was a respected professional, survived by his wife and two children. However, behind this successful facade, he was battling depression and was under medication.

The Investigation

Police are investigating the incident, reviewing CCTV footage to understand how he accessed the refuge area. A case of unnatural death has been registered at Techno City police station. His family revealed that he had been under stress recently, adding to the ongoing investigation.

The Bigger Picture

This tragic incident underscores the critical need to raise awareness about mental health, particularly in high-pressure work environments. It reminds us that hidden struggles often lie behind professional success.
