A shocking incident has come to light from Bihar’s Purnea district, where five members of a family were brutally murdered and their bodies burnt in a bush. The attackers suspected the victims of practising witchcraft and black magic.

The tragedy happened on Sunday night in Tetma village, which falls under the Sadar sub-division of Purnea. According to the police, three people have been arrested so far in connection with the crime.

DIG (Purnea), Pramod Kumar Mandal, said:
“Early investigation suggests the family was killed due to suspicions of witchcraft. After the murder, their bodies were set on fire.”

The police started the investigation after receiving a call from 16-year-old Sonu Kumar, a family member who survived. He informed the police about the killings early Monday morning.

The police believe that the attack may have been triggered by the recent death of a child in the village. Locals suspected that the family was involved in black magic, and this led to the horrifying crime.

SDPO Pankaj Kumar Sharma added, “The child of a man named Ramdev Oraon had died three days ago. People believe that black magic was behind the child’s death and blamed the family for it.”

Political Reaction:

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav strongly reacted to the incident on social media. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he said:

  • “In Purnea, five people from the same family were burnt alive.”
  • “Due to the DK tax, there’s lawlessness in Bihar. Police and officials are helpless.”
  • “A few days ago, three people were killed in Siwan, and similar incidents happened in Buxar and Bhojpur.”
  • “Criminals are active while the Chief Minister stays unaware. The corrupt ‘Bhooja Party’ is thriving, and the police have failed.”
  • “DK is happy because DK is the real boss.”

Note:
This tragic case once again highlights how dangerous superstitions can be, especially when law and awareness are lacking in rural areas.
