The first solar eclipse of 2025 will happen on March 29 (Saturday). However, this eclipse will not be visible in India because of the Sun’s position during the event. While other parts of the world will experience a partial eclipse, the Sun will remain fully visible in India.
What is a Partial Solar Eclipse?
A partial solar eclipse happens when the Moon moves between the Earth and the Sun but only covers part of the Sun. Unlike a total solar eclipse, where the Moon completely blocks the Sun, a partial eclipse creates a shadow that makes the Sun look like a “bite” has been taken out of it.

Date and Timing
-
Start of Eclipse – 2:20 PM IST
-
Maximum Eclipse – 4:17 PM IST
-
End of Eclipse – 6:13 PM IST
Even though these are the official timings, the eclipse will not be visible from India.

Safety Tips for Viewing a Solar Eclipse
If you are in a place where the eclipse is visible, follow these safety tips:
- Never look at the Sun directly – It can cause serious eye damage or even blindness.
- Use certified eclipse glasses – Only wear ISO 12312-2 standard glasses made for solar viewing. Regular sunglasses are not safe.
- Avoid using cameras, binoculars, or telescopes without special filters – These can concentrate sunlight and harm your eyes.
