On Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump praised Elon Musk and announced they will hold a joint press conference at the White House on Friday at 1:30 PM EST.
Trump shared the news on Truth Social, calling Musk “terrific” and saying, “This will be his last day, but not really, because he will, always, be with us, helping all the way.”

This announcement comes after Elon Musk said he would step down from his role as a White House advisor. On Wednesday, Musk wrote on X (the platform he owns), “As my time as a Special Government Employee ends, I want to thank President Trump for the chance to cut wasteful spending.”
Musk added that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which he led, will continue to grow and improve the government. He also said he plans to step back from politics, stating, “I think I’ve done enough.”
During his time in government, Musk focused on reducing waste and saving money through DOGE. However, he strongly disagreed with Trump’s new proposal called the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” which Musk criticized as a huge spending plan that would undo his work.
The White House thanked Musk for his service. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, “We thank him for getting DOGE started and for his efforts to reduce waste, fraud, and abuse.”

The exact reason for Musk’s departure isn’t clear, but several challenges may have influenced his decision. SpaceX faced a few failed rocket launches, and Tesla investors asked Musk to focus more on the company.
Despite stepping down, Musk and Trump seem to remain on good terms, and Friday’s joint appearance shows their ongoing connection.
