Tensions Escalate as Russia Pounds Kharkiv for Second Night

What Happened?

Russia bombed Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, for the second night in a row. The attack injured two people, sparked fires, and damaged a kindergarten and private homes.

The attacks occurred overnight on March 31, 2025, in Kharkiv, northeastern Ukraine. Russia also targeted the nearby city of Kupiansk, causing more destruction.

The attacks follow a week after a U.S.-brokered partial ceasefire, which both sides accused each other of breaking. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Moscow launched over 1,000 drones last week, prompting calls for U.S. and allied intervention.

Impact and Casualties

Over the weekend, a Russian drone strike killed two people and wounded 35 in Kharkiv. Additionally, a missile strike on Kupiansk injured three and destroyed several houses and a cemetery. Kupiansk, previously seized by Russia, was recaptured by Ukraine but is now under renewed Russian pressure.

Zelensky urged for stronger support from the U.S. and its allies, highlighting the continuous drone attacks. Russia, on the other hand, claimed Ukraine targeted its energy infrastructure.

With both sides blaming each other for violating the ceasefire, tensions continue to rise. The world watches closely as the conflict escalates.
