Former Union Minister RCP Singh has joined Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party in Bihar, a state preparing for assembly elections later this year. Along with this, he also announced that his own political party, ‘Aap Sabki Awaz’, which he launched in November 2024, will now be merged with Jan Suraaj.
The announcement was made on Sunday in the presence of Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor. During the event, RCP Singh said, “Together, we will work to make Bihar a developed state.”

RCP Singh is originally from Nalanda, the hometown of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He is a former IAS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre. In 1999, he met Nitish Kumar when he was serving as the Union Railway Minister. Impressed with Singh’s work, Kumar invited him to be his principal secretary after becoming the Chief Minister of Bihar in 2005.
Singh left his government job in 2010 and joined Janata Dal (United), or JD(U), Nitish Kumar’s party. He served two terms in the Rajya Sabha and even became the party’s national president.
However, things changed in 2021 when Singh joined the Union Cabinet. This reportedly caused tensions between him and Nitish Kumar. Soon after, he stepped down as JD(U) president and was not given another Rajya Sabha term in 2022.
In 2023, RCP Singh joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Now, he has taken a new step by joining the Jan Suraaj Party and merging his previous party with it.
