Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has hit back at the Election Commission of India (ECI) after it rejected his claims of “match-fixing” in the recent elections. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Gandhi said that instead of sharing an “unsigned and vague” response, the Election Commission should answer the serious questions raised in his article.

“Dear EC, you are a Constitutional body. Responding with unsigned notes to serious questions isn’t the right way,” Gandhi said. He added that if the EC has nothing to hide, they should:

- Publish updated digital and machine-readable voter lists for recent Lok Sabha and state elections, including Maharashtra.
- Release CCTV footage from all Maharashtra polling booths taken after 5 PM on election day.
“Not answering the questions won’t help your image. Telling the truth will,” Gandhi said.
His remarks came after the Election Commission called his allegations “completely absurd.” The ECI explained that all election processes — like preparing voter lists, polling, and counting — are handled by government employees, with party representatives present throughout.
The EC added that making false claims disrespects the law, hurts the reputation of honest election workers, and demotivates them.
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had posted an article accusing the BJP of manipulating the Maharashtra elections through a five-step plan:
- Rig the selection of EC members.
- Add fake names to voter lists.
- Show higher voter turnout than actual.
- Use bogus voting in key BJP-favored areas.
- Hide all evidence.

He said that this was like match-fixing — it may help one side win, but it damages institutions and public trust. “This kind of rigging could happen in Bihar next, and then anywhere the BJP is at risk of losing,” Gandhi warned.
