Rahul Gandhi Urges EC to Share Voter Roll Data Date

On June 9, 2025, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi praised the Election Commission (EC) for reportedly agreeing to share voter list data for Haryana and Maharashtra. He called it “a good first step” but urged the EC to clearly announce when the data will be given in a digital, machine-readable format.

Rahul Gandhi shared a screenshot of a news report on X (formerly Twitter). The report said the EC had decided to provide electoral roll data from 2009 to 2024 for the two states. This move follows an earlier promise the EC made to the Delhi High Court. However, the Election Commission has not officially confirmed this news yet.

Gandhi posted, “Good first step taken by EC to hand over voter rolls. Can the EC please announce the exact date by which this data will be handed over in a digital, machine-readable format?”

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi accused the EC of “rigging” the Maharashtra elections. In response, EC sources said they would only reply to him if he sends a formal letter. They also mentioned that the EC had invited all six national parties for separate meetings. Five of them attended, but Congress canceled their meeting scheduled for May 15.

Rahul Gandhi criticized the EC again on Saturday, saying that avoiding questions would not help its credibility and only telling the truth would.

He had earlier written an article in a newspaper accusing the BJP of “match-fixing” the Maharashtra Assembly elections and claimed the same could happen in upcoming elections in Bihar and other states where BJP might lose.
